Groups and Services

Sunday School

For Adults:

Sunday School for adults is held year round in the church parlors. Adult class begins at 9:30 each Sunday morning.

Contact person: Sue Benton.

Presbyterians Together

Presbyterians Together is a lively social and service group of the men and women of Spencer Presbyterian Church.

We meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Cornerstone Hall, except in the summer when we meet instead at one of our homes.  Each meeting involves a potluck dinner, devotional, business meeting, and socializing.

Activities include the annual yard sale during the fall Apple Butter Festival and the annual auction in November.  We support a number of church-related activities, such as the Christmas Angel Tree and Mitten Tree gift-giving programs for disadvantaged youths and adults.

We urge you to visit us and join in the fun, whether as an individual or as a couple.

Contact person:  Sue Benton.

Seekers

Seekers, our church youth group, meets every Monday 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the church parlors.  Any and all youths in grades 5-12 are invited to participate.

Quarterly activities include lock-ins, swimming parties, laser tag and Christian rock concerts.  The group also hosts other youth activities throughout the year to support the church Food Panty and to buy Christmas gifts for children less fortunate.

God's Puppet Army

Another major youth activity of the Spencer Presbyterian Church is God's Puppet Army, our puppet ministry

Beginning with its first show in February of 2005, GPA has brought many smiles and much laughter to youngsters as well as more mature audiences.

God's Puppet Army is available to perform for organizations in and around Owen County.  Puppet shows are free of charge.  Contact person:  Cory Bollinger.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir, a long-standing tradition and continuing mainstay of our weekly worship service, sings each Sunday, except during the summer months and on fifth Sundays.

The choir sings hymns and a variety of anthems--including older, traditional and contemporary anthems--all in the service of God.

The weekly choir practice is on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.  We are always looking for additional members.

Contact Elizabeth Bollinger, Choir Director.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry, which is located immediately behind the main church building, serves approximately 200 families per month, helping them to meet basic grocery needs

Volunteers staff the pantry, which is open each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.  Have you considered volunteering for one or two days a month?

We are always grateful for donations of funds and food from church members and other community members and organizations. Food items especially needed include canned fruit, soups, canned meats, canned vegetables, peanut butter, cereal, crackers, canned spaghetti sauce, and pasta.

A collection box for food donations is located in the entry to the church for the convenience of Sunday worshipers.

Deacons Fund

The Deacons Fund provides community members with emergency help in amounts of $50 or less for items such as utilities, rent, lodging, and prescription drugs. Spencer Presbyterian Church is the primary contact church for this purpose during the months of November and February.

Contact person: Sue Benton.

Cornerstone Hall

Cornerstone Hall is the church's multi-purpose community building

It is equipped with a full kitchen and can be divided into separate meeting rooms or left open for large gatherings.

We hold a variety of meetings in this building, from Session to Bible study, Presbyterians Together, the annual auction, fifth-Sunday breakfasts, receptions, and much more.

Contact person: Sue Benton

Child Care

Child care during Sunday worship services is provided upon request in the church's nursery.

The nursery is located in the Manse (church office building) right next to the church sanctuary where Sunday worship services are held.

Ask an usher for assistance when you arrive on Sunday morning.
